Meet Dr. Obos Ekhaese
Obonoruma (Obos) I. Ekhaese is a proud alumni of San Jacinto College South and The University of Houston. Dr. Ekhaese attended Western University of Health Sciences - Pomona, CA, and received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2000.
In June of 2005, Dr. Ekhaese completed his residency at a Michigan State University affiliated hospital, Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital Medical Center, (now McLaren Oakland).
Dr Ekhaese was a staff surgeon at Sarah Bush Lincoln Medical Center, Mattoon Illinois for 3 years, serving a midwest college town community (Eastern Illinois University)
Seeking to specialize in advanced laparoscopic surgery and bariatric surgery, he completed his 1 year fellowship at University of Texas at Houston, Minimal Invasive Surgeons of Texas, (MIST at HCA Houston Northwest Medical Center) in June 2009.
Dr. Ekhaese joined the staff at John Sealy Hospital Galveston in July 2009 and was part of a highly successful Center of Excellence Bariatric program, Center of Obesity and Metabolic Surgery; while being Faculty, Assistant Professor, at The University of Texas Medical Branch. He held the same position at The University of Texas Health at Houston from February 2017 till August 2019, while serving in the role of Regional Residency Director and Assistant director of their burgeoning Academic Global Surgery Program
I am a well- experienced general surgeon specialized in Bariatric, Complex Hernia repair, Reflux, Robotic, Endoscopic, Revision Bariatric, and Global Surgery.
He is a co-author of the Bariatric Surgery Chapter in Yamada’s Textbook of Gastroenterology and Atlas 6th Edition. He along with collegues from UTMB applied for an NIH grant on research based on a Patient Centered Project titled: Evaluation of Neighborhoods-level Environment on Bariatric Surgical Outcomes. Dr Ekhaese was selected to the Leadership Development Institute at The Society of Black Academic Surgeons in 2010 and 2016
