Revision Bariatric Surgery
Have you previously had bariatric surgery? Have you either had complications from such surgery, or have not successfully achieved the desired weight loss results from the initial surgery? Have you acheived weight loss but now have regained the weight? If yes, then you might want to consider revision bariatric surgery
C.A.R.E Surgery Clinic can help you:
- Patients with failed weight loss from procedures such as the Gastric band, Stomach stapling as known as Vertical Banded Gastroplasty procedure, can be considered for revision to either the Sleeve Gastrectomy or the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or Duodenal Switch surgery. These procedures are normally performed laparoscopically, sometimes with Robotic Assistance, though in a small minority of instances prior surgery may have resulted in extensive scarring, requiring open surgery.
- Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is a commonly chosen revision technique, particularly in patients who have not been successful in meeting their weight loss goals after stomach stapling, gastroplasty, vertical gastric banding, or laparoscopic-adjustable gastric banding. Often the prior procedure still lends itself to a revision to become a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. It may be performed laparoscopically, and the average recovery time is longer than primary surgery, approximately two weeks.
- Endoscopic Gastric Pouch / Outlet Reduction [Overstitch] may be used in certain patients who have had prior Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and have a stretched pouch or anastomosis
- Sleeve gastrectomy removes a large portion of the stomach, with the remaining portion reshaped to become tube-like or sleeve-shaped. The result of this is an increased sense of satiety and decreased hunger in patients, often leading to weight loss and improved health. It is a good choice for revision if patient does not have symptoms / complications of reflux due to gastric banding or stapling.
